At the heart of RCB’s victory were captain Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Ellyse Perry, both of whom were integral assets to the team. Mandana’s aggressive leadership style and outstanding batting prowess have set the tone for RCB’s success, while Perry’s experience and versatility make her an all-round match-winner. As two of the most high-profile players in the league, their retention is almost certain, with Mandana and Perry expected to be the core of RCB’s squad heading into the 2025 WPL season.
Several other players also emerged last season, cementing their spots on the reserve list. Richa Ghosh has shown great batting skills with 257 runs and a high strike rate of 142 and is a dependable wicketkeeper-batsman. Her power-hitting ability has made her one of India’s rising stars and an important player for RCB.
Another key contributor is Shreyanka Patil, whose all-round skillset adds depth to the squad. Patil, along with Asha Sobhana and Sophie Devine, provided the right balance in batting and bowling, ensuring RCB’s consistent performance throughout the season. Devine’s aggressive strokeplay and game-changing performances make her the obvious choice to retain, adding international expertise to RCB’s squad.
The competition for foreign player spots in the WPL is very fierce, and RCB is likely to retain Sophie Molineux and Kate Cross because of their great influence on the field. Molyneux’s spin bowling ability and her knack for controlling runs at crucial moments are assets for the WPL in the 2024 season. On the other hand, veteran pacer Kate Cross provides much-needed stability to the bowling attack, making her another possible retainer.
