A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and N Kotishwar Singh heard the appeal on December 20 and sought responses from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka.
The mother of Bengaluru engineer Atul Subhash, who committed suicide on December 9, has approached the Supreme Court seeking custody of her four-year-old grandson, who is currently with daughter-in-law Nikita Singhania right. Subhas left behind a video and written record accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment and false accusations.

The judge also directed the states to “ascertain the whereabouts of minor children.”
