The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted smuggling bids on the Indian-Bangladesh border at the 24 Parganas district in northern West Bengal on Sunday. A smuggler was injured when BSF caught a lot of codeine-based cough syrup.
In order to get Bangladesh infiltration to smuggle prohibited substances in India, an attack on BSF personnel was launched. BSF personnel had to resort to self-defense to open fire, successfully foiling bids for smuggling and driving away from the infiltration.
The incident occurred at 5:30 am when BSF personnel noticed suspicious actions near the Karanchi border outpost in West Bengal. The smugglers moved secretly under the bridge and quickly headed towards the international border adjacent to the Ikahati River.
During a sudden movement, a BSF soldier on duty immediately informed his countrymen of the impending threat and rushed to the infiltration.
After smugglers ignored their initial warnings, BSF officials threw a stun grenade to disperse them. However, the smugglers ignored BSF’s warnings and surrounded them with sharp weapons and sticks.
The soldier realized the imminent danger of his life and fired a round from his PAG (Pump Action Gun) in self-defense, hurting the smugglers. Other smugglers took advantage of the thick fog and escaped.
After scanning the area, BSF personnel found two sacks containing 787 bottles of Phensedyl and a sharp weapon.
Meanwhile, the injured smuggler has been taken to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The initial investigation into the attack will be filed at the local police station and the seized drugs will be handed over to the relevant departments.
