A new denim trend swept the internet as French luxury label Coperni launched a pair of jeans at Rs 38,345 ($440). Unconventional designs attract different reactions from social media users, fashion influencers and industry experts.

Unusual one-legged jeans attract attention

According to Copernicus’ product description, the jeans are designed to be “high waist” and combine “beach shorts and one-legged boot profiles” together. The brand notes that the style breaks the boundaries of classic denim and explores new dimensions.

Fashion influencer Kristy Sarah shared her experience with jeans on Instagram, saying they were “probably the most controversial jeans on the internet.” Her husband, Desmond, responded quickly, questioning: “Why miss the legs?” Before adding, “No one wears them.”

Sarah, though initially skeptical, was open to the concept. She commented: “I’m not angry about it. Of course, I need a bigger size, which is too short for my preference.”

The weight of an industry expert

Carson Kressley, an Emmy Award-winning stylist known for Rupaul’s drag contest and the strange eyes of Dight Guy, expressed his thoughts in an interview with The New York Post. “We hope this trend is insufficient and there is no leg to stand,” he said, adding, “I hope these are always 50% off!”

Jeans have sparked widespread discussion online. One user commented: “This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen,” another said: “The designers are getting desperate. I think electrical tape clothing is the worst.” A third user joked: “There may be a market for amputations.” Single-leg jeans are popular despite criticism. Copernicus isn’t the first brand to try such a design, as Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton launched similar half-half pants last fall. Whether this trend will have lasting appeal remains to be seen.
