Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered immediate action after a video showing women being sterilized in the maternity ward of Khargoan Community Health Center in Sitapur went viral on social media.
Health Minister Pathak took the incident seriously and directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sitapur to investigate and impose disciplinary measures.
Following these directions, the CMO relieved the head of the community health center from his duties, withheld one month’s salary and asked for an explanation within three days.
“In addition, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology has had one month’s salary docked and asked for clarification on his involvement. A nurse and a ward attendant have both been redeployed from the center and have had one month’s salary docked and asked for an explanation” issued to everyone Personally,” Pathak said in a Hindi post on X.
The minister said an FIR has also been filed against two trainee pharmacists and further legal action is on.
The deputy chief minister directed the chief marketing officer to submit a detailed report within four days.
He assured that the department would take stern action upon receipt of the report and said all those responsible would be held accountable as the incident was a serious violation of respect and dignity for women.
“Motherhood is sacred to us and no guilty party will be spared in this unforgivable and unfortunate incident,” he said.
