Vatican City – Pope Francis has spent another “serene” night and is still resting after working in the hospital for nearly three weeks.
The 88-year-old pope was admitted to the Jegilly Hospital in Rome on February 14 and suffers from severe respiratory infections and requires continuous development of treatment.
The Vatican said on Wednesday that his condition has remained stable that day, allowing him to do some work and increase respiratory and mobility physiotherapy.
It added that he did not have any respiratory crises that occurred and closed in the previous days.
Francis has not appeared in public since entering the hospital, the longest absence of his pope since he began 12 years ago. His doctor did not say how long the treatment might last.
If mechanical ventilation is not performed, air is pushed into the lungs and sedation is not required, the Pope receives high oxygen through the small nasal canal.
The Pope has experienced several health conditions over the past two years and is prone to lung infections because he suffered from pleurisitis when he was young and part of his lungs were cleared.
Double pneumonia is a serious infection in both lungs that can inflame and stab them, making it difficult to breathe.
