Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat directs the Citizens Commission to cancel the Vanuatu passport sent to Lalit Modi in the issuance of a statement on Monday (10 March 2025)
“I have directed the Citizens Commission to immediately begin the lawsuit to cancel Mr. Modi’s Vanuatu passport.”
He said that in the past 24 hours, Interpol twice rejected the Indian authorities’ request for an alert notification about Lalit Modi, because of the lack of judicial evidence, he was told.
The Vanuatu Prime Minister said that if Interpole issues an alarm, Lalit Modi’s citizen application has been denied.
Lalit Modi’s passport problem
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi applied for an Indian passport to the London High Commission for India.
A MEA spokesman said that in response to developments in difficult cases between the two countries, India knew that Mr. Modi had been wanted for tax evasion and Indian tax evasion and embezzlement cases and he had obtained citizenship in Vanuatu.
More than a decade after India demanded extradition, Mr. Modi continued to live in London. Mr Jaiswal said Mr Modi has now applied for surrender of his Indian passport.
