The Metropolitan Office said the UK recorded the warmest day of the year twice this weekend, with temperatures near 20°C in parts of the country.
On Sunday, Crosby reached its highest point of 19.7C in Merseyside, defeating Cumbria’s Saturday peak of 19.1c.
High temperatures mean parts of the UK are hotter than holiday hotspots including the Balearic Islands and the Amalfi Coast in Spain and Italy.
“It’s been extensively warm throughout the East and West, and it’s enjoyable in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It’s pretty good, and Sunday is the warmest day of 2025 so far,” said Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Metropolitan Office.
Conditions are expected to cool down this week, with rainfall forecasts across the country.
Snell added: “It will get colder on all parts. The South will be in a mild state on Monday, maybe about 17 degrees Celsius or 18 degrees Celsius, but will be more cloudy.
“In the north, it will be cooler, the band with a spotted rain will come in and move gradually south.”
Tuesday’s coolness will be felt in most parts of the country, which is expected to last through most of the week.
Showers are expected to scatter in the north and east, with temperatures between 6C and 8C in the north and forecasts in the south are between 8C and 9C.
“The conditions will remain single numbers and it will be a cold week, especially compared to this weekend,” Snell said.
“It won’t be a rinse, there will be a lot of dry spells. But it will be a breeze that lowers these temperatures.”
Friday through Saturday will be the same until the temperature starts to rise slightly until the weekend.
Last year marks the 11th year since the 1960s, when Britain recorded a temperature of 34.8C, of which 6 years have been in the past decade.
