Madras High Court to decide if there is any dress code for ministers and whether T-shirts are formal or casual? This comes after a public interest writ petition was filed stating that Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin often wears T-shirts with the DMK rising sun logo embroidered on the left breast.

The lawyer who filed the PIL claimed that the attire worn by the state minister while discharging his duties violated the dress code for civil servants of the Tamil Nadu government

A bench of Justices D Krishnakumar and PB Balaji admitted the plea and asked the state government to explain whether the dress code applies to state ministers and whether T-shirts are considered formal wear or casual wear.

M Sathya Kumar, the petitioner of the PIL, said that the T-shirt worn by Udhayanidhi Stalin had the logo of the DMK. “This is despite the fact that civil servants are prohibited from displaying the symbol of any particular party at government meetings,” he said.
