The lawyer who filed the PIL claimed that the attire worn by the state minister while discharging his duties violated the dress code for civil servants of the Tamil Nadu government
A bench of Justices D Krishnakumar and PB Balaji admitted the plea and asked the state government to explain whether the dress code applies to state ministers and whether T-shirts are considered formal wear or casual wear.
M Sathya Kumar, the petitioner of the PIL, said that the T-shirt worn by Udhayanidhi Stalin had the logo of the DMK. “This is despite the fact that civil servants are prohibited from displaying the symbol of any particular party at government meetings,” he said.
