In a joint operation, the Assam Special Task Force and West Bengal Police on Thursday arrested two suspected militants from Harihappara in Murshidabad. The arrested persons have been identified as Abbas Sheikh, a resident of Baharan area, and Minarul Sheikh, a resident of Kedartala, whom the police suspect to be members of the Jamaat- ul – Liaison between the Mujahideen and JMB India.
Police arrested the suspect in an early morning raid and seized four mobile phones, a pen drive, Islamic religious books and forged documents from his possession.
“Abbas Sheikh was arrested earlier in a fake passport case,” an official said, adding that the two men were being interrogated to gather information.
According to Assam police, five people were arrested, including two from West Bengal, one from Kerala and two from Dhubri. The police also suspected that the defendant was involved in planning some violent acts. However, the matter is under investigation.
