Former US President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that China would not dare to anger him if he returned to the White House because President Xi Jinping knew he was “crazy.”
In a speech to the Wall Street Journal editorial board, Trump explained that under his leadership, China would not try to blockade Taiwan because they would fear the consequences. “I will say: If you enter Taiwan, I’m sorry to do this, I will charge you a tax of 150% to 200%,” he said, according to Taiwanese media. British Broadcasting Corporation.
Trump emphasized his strong relationship with Xi Jinping, although he stopped short of calling the Chinese leader a friend. “He’s actually a very nice guy… I don’t want to say friend – I don’t want to sound stupid, ‘he’s my friend’ – but I get along really well with him,” he said, adding Xi Jinping is “a very fierce person.”
Trump also recalled his interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said “I get along very well with him.” However, Trump claimed he warned Putin not to invade Ukraine, recalling a conversation in which he said: “I’m going to hit you in the middle of fucking Moscow. We’re friends and I don’t want to do it, but I have no choice.”
Trump’s foreign policy, which he calls “America First,” includes vows to impose tariffs and reduce U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war. His choice of J.D. Vance as his running mate has raised concerns among Ukraine’s allies, as the Ohio senator opposes further U.S. aid to the country.
