President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday he would nominate billionaire investor Steven Feinberg to be deputy secretary of defense.
Feinberg is co-chief executive of Cerberus Capital Management LP, a private equity firm that invests in defense contractors. He served on the Intelligence Advisory Committee during Trump’s White House term from 2017 to 2021.
Feinberg, who will serve as the Pentagon’s No. 2 official under Trump’s choice of former Fox News host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, has faced questions over allegations of alcoholism and sexual misconduct. Hegseth has denied any wrongdoing.
Trump also nominated Elbridge Colby to serve as undersecretary of defense for policy, the third-ranking official at the Pentagon. Colby is known as a China hawk and served as a senior Pentagon official during Trump’s first term.
