New Delhi:
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has been in his virgin speech after he was elected Justin Trudeau’s successor Mark Carney warned U.S. President Donald Trump for the “dark, dark days” brought by President Donald Trump. He took a provocative stance, accusing Trump of “attacking Canadian workers, families and businesses.”
Carney said the U.S. president is trying to weaken the Canadian economy by imposing “unreasonable tariffs” while vowing not to allow him to succeed. “We will build new relationships with reliable trading partners and ensure our borders. We will have the greatest impact on the United States, the retaliatory tariffs that have the greatest impact on the United States, and Americans will show respect to us,” he said.
The 59-year-old accused the United States of wanting Canadian resources, water and land, adding that Ottawa would never be part of the United States in “any way, shape or form.” “Canada hasn’t asked for a fight, but if so, we’ll win.”
Carney, who once led Bank of Canada and Bank of England, defeated his main challenger, former deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland, who held several senior cabinet positions in the Liberal government, which was first elected in 2015. Carney won 85.9% of nearly 152,000 votes. Freeland received only 8% of the vote.
However, he may not have a long-term job. Canada must hold elections by October, but a quick poll can also be conducted within a few weeks. Current polls make opposition conservatives a minor favorite.
Trump has spoken many times about annexing Canada and throwing bilateral trade (the lifeblood of the Canadian economy) into chaos, with dazzling future tariff actions, turning in all directions since he took office.
