Tiruchi Railway Division’s freight traffic crossed 10 million tonnes for the third consecutive year, setting a milestone. The milestone was achieved in the 257 days from April 1 to December 13 in the current financial year, during which revenue of Rs 544.85 crore was generated.
The segment has experienced impressive growth across a variety of commodities, with coal loadings leading the way. The coal loading volume was 7.812 million tons, an increase of 4% compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year. Iron ore, grain, cement, fertilizer, containers and other cargo are loaded in this section. The segment’s freight volume increased by 3% during the fiscal year.
The department organized a business development meeting on Wednesday with the participation of 11 major customers including Adani Karaikal Port Pvt. Ltd., Karaikal, Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd., Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Limited Corporation, Dalmia Cement (B) Ltd., Dalmiapuram, India Cements, Ichchangadu, The Ramco Cement, Ariyalur and Ichchangadu, Chettinad Cement Company, Silakudi, and Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation.
Tiruchi District Railway Manager MS Anbalagan encouraged freight customers to step up their support by increasing freight traffic, which will play a key role in exceeding the remaining targets of the current financial year.
During the meeting, the customer shared the loading plan and discussed issues that needed attention during operation. A press release from the Tiruchi division said Mr. Ambaragan assured customers that their concerns would be addressed promptly within the framework of rules to ensure smooth movement of goods.
