“They should work hard for this’: Kailash Gahlot’s name change suggestions in Najafgarh constituency | Indian News

New Delhi: BJP MLA Kailash Gahlot agreed to the request to change the name of the Najafghana parliamentary constituency in Delhi to Nahargar, noting that if the people in the region want to change the name of the region, then everyone should work hard.

Gahlot previously represented the Najafgarh constituency from 2015 to 2025 before winning from Bijwasan constituency in 2025.

Speaking to Ani Kailash Gahlot on Thursday, said: “If the residents of that place express their desire to change the name, then according to me, the government, MLAS, MLAS, ministers are all working for the public and they should work for it (change the name)…”

“You know that my constituency is from the rural areas of Delhi, and it borders three areas of Haryana. When the Mughal ruler, Emperor Shah Alam II, took control of Najafgarh, there was a lot of oppression in the region. During the 1857 revolt, Raja Nahar Singh fought and brought the Najafgarh area into the Delhi province,” Pahalwan said on Thursday in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Additionally, Najafgarh MLA spoke to Ani and reiterated her request, adding that the voice of the Najafgarh people is her voice and she will raise it in the house. She added: “In the past, Najafgarh had had a lot of battles and the name of Najafgarh should change… Najafgarh’s voice is my voice, so I’m going to ask questions in the house.”

BJP MLA Anil Sharma also assured residents that he would work to rename the village of Mohammadpur in the RK Puram constituency to Madhavpuram. He said the proposal was previously adopted by municipal companies but has been held at the conference for a long time and will now be put forward again.
