Superstar Virat Kohli said lessons learned from tough failures from past ICC knockouts paved the way for India’s second major championship in less than 12 months. India won the T20 World Cup last June and won its third championship trophy on Sunday. This is Rohit Sharma’s full-scale effort in the UAE campaign. “It’s been a long time since we had the championship trophy, and the format is really good. It’s our goal. After a tough tour in Australia, we came here and won big tournaments, which once again strengthened our confidence as a team,” Kohli told the host broadcaster.
“Different players played in different matches throughout the game. In past matches, we were unable to finish the match or take advantage of the key situations. But this time, we learned from these experiences.” Rohit and Kl Rahul in the final experience put India in the final against New Zealand.
“That’s why you’re coming back with experienced players – they’ve faced these moments before, and when you apply these learning and work hard, you have a chance to turn things around.”
“The way KL (Rahul) ended in the last two matches proves this experience. When you have been in these situations before and can’t cross the line, there is always a desire to get another chance and overcome it. That’s what we do.” India is by far the best team in the combo. They chose up to five spinners, which was great for them on the slow wicket in Dubai. In the match, India has four spin options.
“One thing we’ve always emphasized throughout the game is focusing on our skills – how great we’re doing, not the opposition. Despite all the challenges, that’s why you’re playing – for these big games.
“Winning four ICC titles is really a blessing, and I think I’m lucky to have played for so long and achieved it,” Coley said.
