The Cure scored their first UK number one album in 32 years with “Songs of a Lost World”.

Frontman Robert Smith said: “It’s exciting and truly heart-warming to have such an enthusiastic response to the release of the new Cure album. Thank you to everyone who has bought it, listened to it, enjoyed it, and believed in us over the years – thank you !”

The Cure topped the charts in 1992 with “Wish,” the only one of their 14 studio albums to do so. The album also featured two of their hit singles, “Friday I’m in Love” and “High”, both of which reached the top ten.

Their releases began to slow down thereafter, releasing an album every four years until 2008’s 4:13 Dream. The Cure continues to tour, but some fans are beginning to wonder if a new studio album will ever happen. A companion record to “4:13 Dream” was scrapped after it was announced, and although Smith promised to return to the studio in 2018, no music was heard for six years until the release of the Songs of a Lost World single “Alone” in September. .

The band’s return has sparked excitement, with their 2001 Greatest Hits returning to the charts, reaching number 30 this week.

“Songs from a Lost World” outsold the rest of the top five combined, making it the week’s top-selling song on vinyl and in independent record stores.

On the singles chart, American singer Gracie Abrams (daughter of Hollywood director and producer J.J. Abrams) scored her first UK number one with “That’s So True” The first song. Her song “I Love You, I’m Reason” remains strong at No. 4. Us” duet, and in July she topped the UK album charts with her record “The”.
