IIT Patna’s third-year student and Telangana residents allegedly ended his life on campus, which jumped from the seventh floor of the building on Tuesday (February 25, 2025).

According to police, the student was identified as Rahul Lavari. He died on the seventh floor.

His friends and classmates took him to Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Lavari is a resident of Hyderabad and is doing B.Tech (Mathematics and Computers). Police have not found any notes and police have not determined the reasons why the students took extreme steps.

After the incident, a large number of students gathered on campus and asked for proper investigation.

Rituparna, who studied on the same branch, said that Lavari was a smart student and it was hard to believe that he was trying to end his life.

“He is a very good student and has no problems. We have studied together. I don’t know what’s going on. Academic pressure may be the reason because there have been a lot of changes in the syllabus and semester recently,” Ms Rituparna said.

Several students claimed there was no medical facility to build a hospital on the university campus because he was taken to a private hospital. Students say he would survive if there were good medical facilities.

Police filed a case of unnatural death. Danapur Police Deputy Chief Pankaj Mishra said the student’s body had been sent for a autopsy. Sources said police will record statements from the dormitory warden and classmates to understand what prompted students to take extreme measures.

His parents were also informed of the incident and they will arrive at Patna on Wednesday (26 February 2025) to claim his body. Meanwhile, the police sealed the hotel room where the students lived.
