In order to significantly alleviate individual handloom weavers, the state government has issued an order (GO RT No: 56) on Sunday (9 March 2025) with loan loans up to Rs 10,000. Textile Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that to implement the initiative, the government approved Rs 33 crore.
The minister highlighted the government’s efforts to restore the gesture department in a statement, which the former government ignored. He said the government has taken proactive measures, including issuing orders directing government departments, agencies and associations to purchase textiles from TGSCO. The program aims to provide continuous employment for weavers while promoting industry growth.
To modernize the industry and enhance the skills development, the government has also established the Konda Laxman Bapuji Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT). The institute will provide 60 students with three years of diploma in handloom and textile technology each year.
The government has established a yarn warehouse in Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla area and has a corpus fund of Rs 5 billion, in response to long-term demands from Powerloom workers. In addition, as part of the “Telangana Cheneta Abhayahasta Program”, the government has approved Rs 16.8 crore to be implemented by January 10, 2025.
The minister also revealed that Rs 2,900.9 billion had been paid under the Netannaku Cheyutha scheme, benefiting from 36,133 handloom workers. In addition, Rs 49,444 crore has been released to TGSCO, liquidating payments to Handloom cooperative Mac and other weavers.
