LONDON – An oil tanker and a cargo ship collided on the British coast in the North Sea, the British Coast Guard said on Monday.
The Coast Guard under Ma acts as the UK’s National Maritime Emergency Service, he said it is coordinating responses to reports of a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo ship off the coast of the UK’s East Yorkshire.
It said the alarm issued an alert, alerting the agency at 9:48 a.m. local time (5:48 a.m. ET).
The British government’s Maritime and Coast Guard said in a media statement that the Coast Guard rescue helicopters were last dispatched to cope with the collision, as well as lifeboats from multiple regions, including Skegness, Bridlington, Mipresop and Cleetops.
It added that a Coast Guard with “fire-fighting capabilities” and nearby ships were also deployed.
As of early Monday, it is unclear whether there was any harm in the incident.
