The Supreme Court on Thursday extended its interim order staying proceedings against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in a defamation case filed in 2018 by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar .
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti also deferred the plea filed by Atishi and Kejriwal, who had challenged the Delhi High Court’s order refusing to quash the defamation case.
Notably, Babar filed a defamation suit against the AAP leader for his remarks about deleting names of voters.
The court had earlier provided interim relief to the two leaders and suspended hearings in lower courts.
The court adjourned the case for four weeks after Rajiv Babar’s lawyers sought time to file a reply in the matter.
The high court said the allegations were prima facie defamatory and were made to defame the BJP and gain undue political gain. It dismissed the defamation case filed in the trial court by Atishi, Kejriwal and AAP former Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Gupta and party leader Manoj Kumar question.
