Popular workplace messaging platform Slack experienced a massive power outage on Wednesday, leaving thousands of users unable to connect or send messages. More than 3,000 people reported Slack’s problems before 10:00 p.m., according to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages of online services.
Slack’s technical dashboard first confirmed the IST interruption at 9:57 pm due to difficulties loading the platform and establishing the connection. As the interruption persists, affected users report issues with core features, including messaging, workflow, threading, and API-related features. Many people also encountered difficulties when trying to log in.
Slack notes that in the update on the status page of the IST, “we are still working on reverting features to affected Slack features such as sending messages, workflows, threads and other API-related features. Users are also trying to log in when they try to log in. Problems may be encountered. Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to investigate. We will update further as they become available.”
The nature and cause of the technical failure is unclear and Slack has not provided an estimated timeline for the complete solution. Disruptions disrupt communications between businesses and organizations that rely on platforms to collaborate.
Users across regions are entering social media to express frustration with interruptions, and many are looking for updates on when services will resume.
“We are very sorry for the inconvenience that has been brought to you. We are working hard to resolve this issue as soon as possible and we will contact you as soon as possible once it is pinned or we have the next step to share. Meanwhile, the Slack Status website is to stay up to date The best way to get information 1/2.” The company said on X.
As Slack continues to investigate the incident, it is recommended that affected users monitor the company’s official status page for further updates.
