Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K. Selvaperunthagai on Friday claimed that the Indian economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading towards disaster.
Selvaperunthagai said in the statement that Modi promised during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2024 and achieve double-digit growth. However, in the past 10 years, India has not fulfilled his promise. Now, he has been saying that steps are being taken to make India the world’s third largest economy. But due to demonetisation, fraud of up to Rs 90,000 crore in the banking sector and accumulation of non-performing assets worth Rs 2,400 crore, the Indian economy is heading towards disaster.
“In terms of gross domestic product per capita, India ranks 138th among other countries. There is no inclusive growth under Modi and only a few businesses are profitable. In the recently released Global Hunger Index, India ranks 138th among 127 countries. Ranking 105. This is a clear indication that the quality of life has been deteriorating under Modi,” he added.
