Former Indian coach Sanjay Bangar talked about Virat Kohli’s changes to batting after the Australian tour. The former Indian captain played 190 games in five matches during the Border-Gavaska Trophy and called Bangal ahead of the 2025 Championship Trophy.
During the match, Virat performed well against Pakistan in the ongoing championship trophy as the 36-year-old smashed his 51st century at ODI. Speaking to the Indian era, Bangar said Kohli made sure he would wait for the ball to come instead of always playing on the front foot.
“He (Korley) was waiting for the ball to come to him. He was willing to cover up the infield, too. Against the spin, what he saw in his first half was that he played a lot in the hind foot. Then, once he got that confidence, he started that forward foot.
“When Kohli formed, his bats had come from the second or third sliding area, allowing him to shoot more controlled shots. He was a ready man without any steps. He knew he had to strengthen (after the Australian Tour). He brought that intensity to his game and could see it in his body language.”
“What he did well was to watch the ball until the end, until contact with his racket. This is something we discussed – looking at the ball like an eagle, with more than 100% of the ball per delivery. He was eager to run and in the innings he played (versus Pakistan) (he could play on the international clock ball for another 3-4 years).
India will next face New Zealand in the 2025 Continuing Championship trophy at Dubai International Stadium on March 2.
