Congress leader Shama Mohamed sparked a row after asking about Rohit Sharma’s fitness, congratulating the Indian captain on his team for an exciting four-goal victory in the championship trophy final in Dubai.
In an article on the X-Moment of India’s defeat of New Zealand, Mohammed praised Rohit Sharma’s 76-innings match, calling it the tone of the Blue Man winning the championship trophy after 12 years. She also yelled at midrange batsmen Shryas Iyer and Kl Rahul to show off in the innings in India.

Rohit Sharma’s 76, coupled with a fight knock from Axar Patel, Shryas Iyer and Kl Rahul, ensured that India successfully hunted 252 against New Zealand and pushed the Blue man toward the third championship trophy title.

In the now-deleted post, Mohamed sparked great controversy when he called Rohit Sharma “the fat man of the athlete” and the “most impressive” captain in Indian history.
“Rohit Sharma is fat for athletes! Need to lose weight! Of course, India’s most incredible captain once had it!” read the post she’s now deleted.
The BJP quickly condemned Mohammed’s remarks, accusing Congress of “disguising” and not respecting the World Cup championship. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya slammed Mohamed, calling them “completely pathetic”.
Mohamed defended her speech, noting that her tweets were a general observation of athletes’ fitness rather than physical deception.
Congress distanced itself from Mohamed’s remarks, saying the party “respected the contribution of sports idols with the highest respect for the contributions of sports idols.”
Party leader Pawan Khera said Mohamed was asked to delete her post and “advised her to be more cautious in the future”.
