Romanian far-right president is hoped for polls

Romanian far-right populist Calin Georgescu was banned from reenactment by the country’s central election bureau in May’s presidential election.

In December, Romania’s constitutional court abolished the first round of votes (he appeared first), after intelligence revealed that Russia was involved in 800 Tiktok accounts supporting him.

The bureau rejected the candidate qualification for what he called a “procedural issue” without providing more details. Georgescu called the decision a “direct blow” to democracy.

Now, starting on Sunday’s verdict, he has 24 hours to file a formal appeal, which should be issued within 72 hours.
