Indian captain Rohit Sharma told reporters at a post-match press conference that he had no retirement plan, thus clearing the air from his rumored retirement plan.
“One more thing: I’m not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumors spread forward,” Rohit Sharma said at the end of Sunday’s press conference, after he directed India to win a third trophy title. Thanks to his 76th position at the top of the inning, India chased New Zealand’s 252-Run target, holding spares and four wickets.
In the last match, Rohit Sharma lost the wicket when he started bullying the opposition team’s opening bowling for India. This approach hits Sunday in the final, when India needed it to make the most of its effect.
“I did the same thing today (as in previous games). I wanted to score in PowerPlay, and once the field spreads it became difficult. So you have to grab the opportunity at the top. I picked the bowling ball and the spots to hit. You may not see the consistency of the score, but I know what I’m doing. After 10 points, I changed the game. But when the team wins, you’ll be happy. In the 2019 World Cup, I played nicely, but we didn’t win the championship. It didn’t make me happy,” Rohit said in a press conference.
Before his post-match speech, Rohit also talked about his approach.
“It’s not natural for me (actively hitting the ball in the last two ICC ODI events), but it’s what I want to do. When you try different things, you need support from the team and management. During the ODI World Cup, I talked to Rahul Bhai, who supported him just as much as Gauti Bhai. It’s about getting support from the team and management. Having the depth of hit makes it much easier and gives me freedom. The results aren’t always consistent, but as long as the team’s purpose is achieved, it’s OK.”
