India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvatamani Harish, emphasized India’s support for the Palestinian people amid escalating tensions in the region. He recently made a statement at the UN Security Council open debate saying, “…India stands ready to do more for the Palestinian people…”

He further emphasized India’s important development assistance, with Harish announcing that the scale of India’s development assistance currently stands at US$120 million.

“Our current development assistance scale is US$120 million. This includes our cumulative support of US$37 million to UNRWA. We also sent the first batch of 6 tons of medicines and medical supplies to UNRWA in 2019. October 22 this year,” he said.

Harish condemned the recent terrorist attack in Israel on October 7 and reiterated India’s commitment to the two-state solution, advocating for a sovereign and independent Palestine within mutually agreed borders.

“The terrorist attack in Israel on October 7 deserves our unequivocal condemnation… I reiterate India’s call for the immediate release of all hostages and a ceasefire… We support a two-state solution that includes the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestine on mutually agreed borders Inside,” he added.

Stressing the need for dialogue and peace, he said: “We also urge all members of the international community to undertake this effort. India underlines its firm belief in the vision of peace and stability in the Middle East.”

He also added, “In India, the international community has a reliable partner who is willing to continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders to achieve long-term peace and stability…”
