Ashwin’s surprise decision after the third Test draw against Australia in Brisbane left fans and pundits alike in disbelief.
Ashwin’s father was surprised by the spinner’s sudden retirement and used the word “humiliating” to express his surprise. He said: “I came to know about it at the last moment too. There could be many reasons for the way he gave it (retirement). Only Ashwin knows about it, maybe it was humiliation.
The statement sparked widespread discussion on social media. Ashwin, however, felt there was little substance to dissect further.
“My father had no media training; their father was enna da ithelaam. I never thought you would follow the rich tradition of the Dad Statement. Please forgive him and leave him alone.
