Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss urged the center on Thursday to worry about southern states as proposed demarcation activities could reduce the number of seats in Lok Sabha. He also said that the recent statement on demarcation exercises by union interior minister Amit Shah was “unacceptable and lacked clarity”.
There is a concern among the southern states that they are scheduled to take place in 2026 in 2026 after the demarcation of the representation of Lok Sabha. Fifty years ago, India faced some challenges due to population explosions, and the coalition government urged states to implement population control measures. The southern countries played an important role in controlling population growth, which ultimately led to the development of India. In this case, the southern state should receive an additional representative reward in Lok Sabha. Instead, it is unacceptable to determine the number of Lok Sabha seats based on population, Dr. Ramados said in a statement.
He also said Mr Shah only promised that the number of existing Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will not be reduced. However, he has not clarified whether the number of Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be increased based on the increase in the total number of Lok Sabha seats. The coalition government should ensure that the proposed demarcation activities do not reduce 7.2% of the total number of existing seats in Lok Sabha to Tamil Nadu.
Dr Ramadoss said the PMK will support all initiatives taken by Tamil Nadu to ensure that the state does not have a decrease in representation in Lok Sabha.
