Digital University of Kerala (DUK) Vice-Chancellor Ciza Thomas on Wednesday inaugurated the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) CASIF Open Source Chip Campaign project at the Technology Park.

The event brings together experts in open source hardware to discuss breakthrough advances in RF (radio frequency) and neuromorphic technologies.

Anu Sebastian, a pioneer in the field of neuromorphic computing and IBM Research, delivered a keynote speech. He dives into how open source hardware is revolutionizing artificial intelligence and machine learning by enabling faster prototyping and collaborative problem solving. Dr. Sebastian also presented specific examples of tools and frameworks that pave the way for scalable and energy-efficient AI solutions.

Professor Alex James, Dean of DUK, said that open source measures are not only a technology movement, but also a cultural change that promotes equity and innovation.

The panel discussion also discussed the role of semiconductor manufacturing facilities and their importance in supporting the nation’s technology ecosystem.
