The Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann is planning a massive crackdown on drugs and vows to eliminate the problem from the state within three months. Punjab CM Mann called a meeting with senior officials on Friday and set a three-month deadline to make the state drug-free.
Mann echoed his election commitment to make Punjab a drug-free country, saying the government will set up a special court to ensure a swift trial in drug cases and convictions of convicted persons. These steps are from Punjab CM to re-promote the anti-virus campaign in the state. The meeting was held the day after the five-member five-member committee was formed to monitor the ongoing drive of drug threats to the state.
Subcommittee – led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and composed by Governors Aman Arora, Balbir Singh, Laljit Singh Bhullar and Tarunpreet Singh Sond, overseeing measures taken by the police and health departments to address the drugs Menace and De-Addictiation de-Addictiation de-Addictiation de-Addictiation.
The meeting was held Friday, with the attendance of the deputy commissioner, senior director and statewide police chief. Chief Secretary Kap Sinha, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, and members of the Subcommittee were also present. According to an official statement, Mann said precautions should be taken at schools and universities so that young people do not become prey of drug scourges.
Mann said the education department will take the necessary steps to introduce courses detailing the shortcomings of drug use. The Chief Minister also said supply lines should be snapped up and drug sellers should be placed in prison. Mann said the state government will ensure that drug vendors and their families do not receive any subsidies or freedom of power and water to make it a deterrent.
Urges Mann to demand a large-scale movement to turn an anti-drug war, requiring officials to plan bigger actions. CM Mann also noted that the property of a person convicted in a drug case should be seized immediately.
