A teenager died after a 100km police pursuit, which will be subject to independent scrutiny.
Three other teenagers were injured after police deployed tire spikes to stop the vehicle (allegedly stolen) inside Bourke, Inland, New South Wales.
After 45 minutes of police pursuit, the car crashed and rolled at 1.30 a.m. Friday.
A 17-year-old man died at the scene, and three other boys were taken to hospital, including a 14-year-old boy, who was in serious condition as serious as Sydney.
NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley said the incident was a tragedy that ruined the lives of young people.
“Burke is a small community…this kind of tragedy vibrates in such a devastating community,” she said.
Police investigations will be subject to independent scrutiny.
Burke’s crash occurred more than two hours after the report of a robbery at a service station in Narnomine, central New South Wales. Police said four teenagers left the scene in a vehicle allegedly stolen.
The car was found near Nyngan and stayed for a short distance near Nyngan, then started a longer chase in Coolabah at 12.45am.
Road Target was deployed in Curabad and then again in the suburbs of Burke. The car continued through Burke Town and then crashed and rolled at 1.30 a.m.
State Attorney General Michael Daley said he had no idea about the teenagers involved in the “terrible incident.”
“I just want to express my sympathy to the young people who died and his friends and family,” he said to the budget estimate hearing.
The national opposition stressed the fatal consequences of the crash as it questioned the government’s concerns about community crime.
