A small plane crashed into a commercial building in California, killing two people and injuring 18 others, officials said.
The Fullerton Police Department posted on X Thursday afternoon that 10 people were injured and taken to the hospital. Eight other people were injured and were treated at the scene and released.
The single-engine cargo truck, an RV-10, crashed at 14:15 PST (20:15 GMT), according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Officials did not provide further details about what caused the crash. It was unclear whether the two people who died were workers or people on the plane.
Police said they were evacuating buildings in the area and asked the public to stay away from the crash site.
Congressman Lou Correa, who represents Orange County, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Los Angeles, said the building that was attacked was a furniture manufacturing business.
Correa posted on X that at least a dozen of the victims were factory workers.
Aerial photos from the scene showed parts of the aircraft inside the building. The accident also caused a fire, which firefighters put out.
Surveillance footage from a building across the street showed a violent explosion, local news outlets reported.
Eyewitness Mark Anderson said: ‘People are shocked by the situation’ KRCA TV.
“There was just a loud bang and one of the guys walked out and said, ‘Oh my God, the building is on fire.'”
The crash area is near Fullerton Municipal Airport, about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from Disneyland.
The plane appeared to return to the airport shortly after takeoff, KRCA-TV reported.
It was the second plane to crash in the area in the past two months, BBC US partner CBS reported.
