Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday to review the upgrade of the stadium for next year’s International Cricket Championship Champions Trophy.
Since this mega event will host top international teams, the PCB has been ensuring that the host stadiums meet international standards. Reviewing the ongoing work, Naqvi directed that the electronic screen at the stadium should be moved upwards as it currently blocks the view of some fans.
According to Geo News, Naqvi said during the visit: “We want fans to be able to watch the game without interruption, so adjusting the position of the screen is a top priority.” In addition to moving the electronic screen, Naqvi also directed that the parking lot be moved closer to the Karachi Stadium. This will improve fan access and convenience.
During the visit, Naqvi also urged the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to speed up the renovation work to ensure that the stadium is ready for matches in time.
“Hosting the Champions Trophy is a big moment for Pakistan and we want the venue to reflect that,” he added.
Last week, Geo News reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was satisfied with the arrangements detailed by PCB officials. The preparations were unveiled at an ICC meeting, which was also attended by Naqvi.
Sources told Geo News that during the meeting, PCB officials assured the ICC board members that upgrading work on the three stadiums hosting the mega tournament matches will be completed within the stipulated time.
