A war of words has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress after two saffron party MPs were injured in a confrontation inside the Parliament building over alleged insult to BR Ambedkar.
The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of exerting pressure on senior members. The Congress leader, however, rejected the allegation and claimed that when he tried to enter the Parliament, BJP members blocked the entrance and were blocked by other MPs.
The Congress party termed it a “farce” and called it “a grand display of the BJP’s mission to ‘save Ambedkar-Virodhi Amit Shah'”.
Meanwhile, the BJP has lodged a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi. The Congress party has also lodged a complaint against the BJP.
Who are the two injured MPs?
Two BJP MPs – Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, suffered head injuries in the confrontation and have been admitted to Delhi Ram Manohar ·Intensive Care Unit of Lohia Hospital.
Pratap Sarangi
Pratap Chandra Sarangi (69) is a BJP MP from Balasore in Odisha. He has received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Utkal University, Odisha. He currently serves on the Water Resources Committee and the Public Utilities Committee. He served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2014. Previously, he served as Odisha VHP general secretary, Odisha vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Bajrang Dal president of Odisha.
Mukesh Rajput
Mukesh Rajput is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Member of Parliament from Farrukhabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh. In the 2024 elections, he defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Naval Kishor Shakya by more than 2,600 votes. He is a member of the Public Utilities Committee and the Labor, Textile and Skill Development Committee. He has completed his bachelor’s degree. and completed his studies from RP Degree College, Kamalganj, Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.
How is the health of members of Congress?
Both MPs were rushed to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The two leaders suffered head injuries and were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Regarding Pratap Sarangi’s injury, he said Sarangi was bleeding profusely, ANI reported quoting medical director Ajay Shukla.
Talking about Mukesh Rajput’s health, Shukla said the MP had fallen unconscious earlier. “Mukesh Rajput was unconscious. Now, he is conscious but he is feeling dizzy and anxious. His blood pressure is soaring,” he added.
What did Rahul Gandhi say?
Reacting to the allegations, Rahul Gandhi said the incident may come on your camera. I tried to enter through the Parliament entrance and the BJP MPs tried to stop me, pushed me and threatened me. So this happened… yes, this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed).
“We will not be affected by the push and pull. The core issue is that they are attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Ambedkar Ji,” Gandhi said.
BJP files case against Rahul Gandhi
BJP MP Anurag Thakur said they have lodged a complaint of physical assault against Rahul Gandhi with the Delhi Police. “We detailed the incidents that took place in Makadua where NDA MPs sought to expose Congress party propaganda.”
Priyanka Gandhi says this is conspiracy
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the BJP had accused her brother and party leader Rahul Gandhi of pressuring BJP MPs to “retain the home minister’s A conspiracy in the interest of Amit Shah”.
“Today, for the first time they (BJP MPs) protested and stopped everyone and then indulged in pushing and ‘goodagardi’ (hooliganism)”. The conspiracy hatched by this ‘bhaiya’.
“This is a conspiracy. We challenge those who stop us from saying ‘Jai Bhim’. Why can’t they raise the slogan ‘Jai Bhim’?” asked Priyanka Gandhi.
Order investigation: Hager writes to speaker
Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birlaa requesting him to launch an inquiry into the incident, claiming that he was in the Parliament building Nei was physically pushed by the BJP MP, after which he lost his balance.
“I was pushed down by the BJP MP. I lost my balance and was forced to sit on the ground in front of Makar Deva. This caused damage to my knee, which had undergone surgery,” Haggar said.
“This is not just an attack on me but also on the Lok Sabha and the Congress president,” Haq said, urging the speaker to order an inquiry into the BJP MPs who “promoted” him.
Omar Abdullah defends Rahul Gandhi
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has defended Rahul Gandhi, saying he is not bad or rude by nature.
Abdullah wrote on his account: “I know Rahul, he will not force anyone, let alone a MP. It is not in his nature to be rude or obnoxious to anyone.”
Congress files a complaint
A delegation of MPs, including women MPs, rushed to the Parliament Street police station to lodge a complaint against the BJP.
“We have come here to complain about how our 84-year-old Dalit leader (Mallikarjun Kharge) was brought down. He misbehaved,” Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said.
