Authorities said Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead at a New Mexico residence on Wednesday.

There was no suspected foul, but authorities did not release any details of his death and said an investigation was underway.

Denise Avila, a spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies responded to a request for welfare checks at home around 1:45 local time and found Hackman, his wife, Betsy Arakawa and a dog dead.

Hackman, 95, is one of the most respected and honored performers in the industry. His dozens of films include Oscars’ roles in “French Connection” and “Intangible Heritage” and has made breakthrough performances in “Bonnie and Clyde.”
