Minutes before the Lok Sabha adjourned indefinitely on Friday, the House of Representatives passed a resolution recommending two bills to hold simultaneous elections to the 39-member bicameral joint parliamentary committee. The resolution was moved by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and came after the opposition protested against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks related to Ambedkar Passed by voice vote. PTI reported.
Twelve members of the Bundestag will become members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on “One Nation, One Election”. According to reports, they are: Ghanshyam Tiwari, Bhubaneswar Kalita, K. Laxman, Kavita Patidar, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik, Saket Gokhale, P. Wilson, Sanjay Singh, Manas Ranjan Manga Ani.

Two “One Nation, One Election” (ONOE) bills, one of which calls for amending the constitution to provide for a mechanism to hold simultaneous elections, were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday after intense debate.
The resolution also recommends that the House of Federation notify the list of members to be appointed to the Joint Commission.
The bill, which was approved by the cabinet last week, aims to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections across India.
Opposition members opposed the introduction of the bill. 269 MPs from the sector voted in favor of the bill being introduced and 196 voted against it.

It is reported PTIthe government’s proposed list of Lok Sabha MPs now includes one member each from the Shiv Sena (UBT), CPI(M) and Ram Vilas, along with two members from the BJP and one Member from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to PTI, the agenda of the House on Friday included a motion moved by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to refer the two bills to a joint committee consisting of 27 members from the Lok Sabha members and 12 members from the House of Federation.

The new Lok Sabha MPs who have proposed to join the committee include Baijayant Panda and Sanjay Jaiswal from the BJP, Chhotelal from the Samajwadi Party, Anil Desai from the Shiv Sena (UBT), Shambhavi from the Lok Janshakti Party and the CPI(M) K Radhakrishnan.
The committee will review two “One Nation, One Election” (ONOE) bills, one of which seeks to amend the constitution.
Former Union ministers Anurag Thakur and PP Chaudhary, as well as the BJP’s Bhartruhari Mahtab and the Congress’s Priyanka Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also a Lok Sabha member who proposed joining the panel.
Among the Lok Sabha members, 17 are from the National Democratic Alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and 12 of them are from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal today introduced two important bills in the Lok Sabha: the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The bills propose holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that when the One Nation One Bill was submitted to the Cabinet for approval, Prime Minister Modi recommended that it be referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed discussion.
