Ashok Kumar Malhotra, head of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), said, “Special technical textile exports grew by 6.2% between April and November compared to the same period last year. “
Mr Malhotra told hinduism On Friday (December 20, 2024), exports from April to November this year were valued at Rs 2,915 crore, as compared to Rs 2,345 crore from April to November last year. “India imports a large amount of technical textiles. As consumption increases, domestic demand continues to grow. It is important to promote domestic production and ensure that imports do not increase. India’s exports are now increasing, especially in products such as diapers and sanitary napkins,” he explain.
Packaging technology and geotextiles are two rapidly growing areas of technical textiles. “India has a strong base of natural raw materials. These need to be developed into functional textiles.
“Of the total outlay of Rs 1,480 crore for the mission, more than 50% has been spent and another Rs 500 crore has been earmarked for creating an ecosystem through training of right people. Those who want to benefit from the mission’s programs can Apply before March 2026,” Mr Malhotra said.
“Technical Textiles has 12 centers of excellence and a report will be prepared within the next three months which will identify which centers need to be moved to the next level of activity and the new centers required,” he added.
