The National Tribal Festival ‘Nera Thinka -24’ kicked off at the Kerala Institute of Research, Training and Development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) in Kozhikode on Tuesday.
The week-long festival showcases various aspects of tribal culture such as food, art, literature, medicine and crafts. Tribal communities from Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu participate in the festival, which also includes Ethnic Food Festival, ‘Uchal’, Tribal Literary Camp, “Bellibane”, Tribal Medicine Camp and Tribal Cultural Camp.
“Toda embroidery” products from Nilgiri, Tamil Nadu, ethnic cuisine from Maharashtra, various tuber products made by tribal people of the Western Ghats and bamboo baskets woven by Nilambur tribal women They are all the highlights of the festival.
The event is open to the public from 10am to 9pm and the festival will run until December 30.
