Nelikuz murder case: Accused had a poor childhood

Aneesha, a 23-year-old pregnant woman who was arrested for the murder of her six-year-old stepdaughter, reportedly had a rough childhood amid poverty in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district.

She reportedly lost her parents at a young age, has no memory of them, and was raised by her maternal grandfather and grandmother.

Police sources said that about 35 to 40 percent of Shamli’s population is poor, which, coupled with illiteracy, makes residents of the area vulnerable to all kinds of things including witchcraft and witchcraft. After getting married, Anisha and her husband Ajas Khan came to the latter’s home in Nellikouzh four months ago. They each have a daughter from a previous marriage. The house, which has been vacant for more than a year and a half, is where Ajas’ father died.

“She felt uncomfortable in the home from the very beginning. Then her grandmother suggested that it might be because the house was possessed by an evil spirit and she blindly believed it,” a police source said.

Ajas then reportedly took her to Noshad, who had been consulting local “shamans” since she was a child. This reportedly worsened her condition. Noshad allegedly made her believe she was possessed by three spirits and claimed to have cured two of her spirits. During interrogation, Noshad claimed to have told Ajas that he should take his wife to see a psychiatrist and that she might even endanger their children. However, Ajas dismissed it and said that the “Wizard” never did this.

Ajath’s estranged wife is reportedly from West Bengal and she often contacts him to inquire about their daughter. This may have made Anissa even more uncomfortable and insecure. She may have feared that Ajas would abandon her like her first husband.

“Her belief in witchcraft and witchcraft seemed so deep-rooted that she even attributed her actions to the ‘soul’ she believed possessed her. Perhaps this is why when ritualistic ‘witchcraft’ are performed , she eventually broke down and confessed, leading her to believe that “spirits” were summoned to be responsible for the alleged suffocation of the girl,” police said.
