“A 22-year-old man accused in a murder case threw a slipper at the judge during a hearing at the Thane District Sessions Court in Maharashtra,” police said on Monday (December 23, 2024).

They said: “The slipper did not hit the judge, but hit the wooden frame in front of the judge’s desk, and then fell next to the judge.” The incident occurred in Kayan Town on Saturday afternoon (December 21, 2024) Court took place and subsequently a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the accused.

“The accused Kiran Santosh Bharam was produced before District and Additional Court Judge RG Waghmare for hearing in the murder case against him,” an official from Mahatma Fule police station said.

“At that time, the defendant made a request to the judge to transfer the case to another court. The judge asked the defendant to make the same request through his lawyer,” the official said.

“Subsequently his lawyer’s name was called, but he was not present and did not appear in court. Therefore, the defendant was asked to provide the name of another lawyer representing him and a new date was given by the court,” he said.

“The defendant then bent down, pulled out his slippers and threw them in the direction of the judge, surprising everyone in the courtroom,” the official said.

“The accused was subsequently booked under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharge of duty) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” the police added.
