The district health department released the route map of the Kannur native who tested positive for Mpox after returning from the UAE. District Medical Officer Dr. Piyush M. Namboothiripad has directed those who have come in contact with infected patients to report to the health department if they develop any symptoms.

Originally a zoonotic disease transmitted from animals to humans, Mpox is now primarily transmitted from person to person. Mpox has similar symptoms to orthopoxvirus infections. The disease is contagious once symptoms appear, and close contact with an infected person increases the risk of transmission. People arriving from foreign countries should remain isolated and notify health authorities if they develop smallpox-like symptoms.
Symptoms of Mpox include fever, severe headache, swollen lymph nodes, back pain, muscle pain and fatigue. Within a week after a fever, blisters and erythema usually appear on the body, usually on the face, limbs, palms, genitals, and eyes. The disease is spread through direct face-to-face contact, skin-to-skin contact, sexual intercourse, and contact with contaminated items such as bedding or clothing. Health authorities warn that the virus is not airborne, but high-risk groups such as the elderly, children and pregnant women should be especially careful.
