Meet singer Kalpana Raghvendra, who swallowed 18 sleeping pills after fighting his daughter

According to a report by Onmanorama, Kalpana clarified that she accidentally overdoses her insomnia tablets due to stress. She attributes the pressure to disagreements with her daughter in terms of education.

Singer Kalpana Raghavendar, known for her work in Tamil and Telugu movies, denied attempts to commit suicide. She revealed that she lost consciousness after taking 18 insomnia pills. The incident occurred at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad, which resulted in her hospitalization.

According to a report by Onmanorama, Kalpana clarified that she accidentally overdoses her insomnia tablets due to stress. She attributes the pressure to disagreements with her daughter in terms of education.

Kalpana’s daughter Daya Prasad also rejected rumors about suicide attempts, saying the family is in good condition and her mother will be back home within a few days.

According to KPHB police, Karpana and her husband have lived in Nizampet for the past five years. On March 3, Kalpana had a dispute with Daya about her education. Kalpana wanted her to study in Hyderabad, but Daya refused. After returning from Ernakulam on March 4, Kalpana struggled to fall asleep despite multiple attempts.

A few days ago report surfaced, claiming that Karpana had committed suicide. According to media reports, security officials said Karpana did not open the door, prompting neighbors to contact police for help. When police opened the door, they found the 44-year-old singer unconscious.

Kalpana’s husband Prabhakar was in Chennai when the incident happened, but he immediately headed to Hyderabad. The report also showed that the singer’s condition was crucial and she was placed on a ventilator support.


Kalpana, the daughter of popular singer TS Raghavendra, stood out in 2010 after winning the reality show star singer Malayalam. Over her twenty-year career, she has recorded over 1,500 songs and has worked with music legends such as Ilaiyaraaja and Ar Rahman. In 2015, Kalpana won the Best Female Player Award at Tamil Nadu, and her song “Pogiren” won “36 Vayadhinile” in Jyotika-starrer.

She also participated in the first season of Bigg Boss Telugu, hosted by JR NTR. Kalpana has also served as judges on several reality shows.
