A major tragedy was averted when the tile roof of the anganwadi building collapsed on the Kandanad Junior Basic School campus near Udayamperoor in Ernakulam district of Kerala on Thursday (December 19, 2024) morning.
The incident occurred minutes before the children arrived at school and no injuries were reported. The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. According to nearby residents, the building was dilapidated and in a dangerous state for a long time.
An Anganwadi woman who was working at the spot managed to escape unhurt after hearing the sound of the roof collapsing.
A portion of the damaged roof had collapsed earlier and a complaint had been lodged with the panchayat authorities, she said.
