- The Thar Roxx SUV is the five-door version of the Thar SUV and will be launched in August with prices starting at $12.99 Lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra has revealed how long people might have to wait to drive home the Thar Roxx SUV, which has created a huge buzz since its launch in August. Mahindra, while announcing its second-quarter results on Thursday (November 7), also said that demand for the three-door Thar SUV has also picked up since the initial decline following the launch of the more popular Thar Roxx in the market. The carmaker currently leads the SUV segment with these two models, in addition to other models such as the Scorpio-N, XUV700 or XUV 3XO.

Mahindra has witnessed high demand for the Thar Roxx SUV since its launch on August 14. Since the October window opened, the automaker has booked 176,000 units in an hour. It has also been one of the manufacturer’s best-selling models in October since deliveries of the Dusshera began. As of now, Mahindra is trying to balance production with high demand.
How Mahindra plans to shorten Thar Roxx waiting period
Given the high demand, waiting times for Thar Roxx are currently very long. However, Mahindra plans to shorten this to around nine months early next year. “Depending on the variant, the waiting period for Thar Roxx will be around 9 to 15 months,” Mahindra and Mahindra Automotive and Agriculture segment executive and CEO Rajesh Jejurikar expected. The waiting period for Thar Roxx has been extended by 18 months. Since its launch, the model has sold significantly higher sales than all other models in the Mahindra SUV range.

Mahindra currently manufactures around 9,500 units of Thar and Thar Roxx SUVs at its Chakan plant. While the exact production ratio between the two has not been announced, Jejurikar said the automaker plans to adjust the ratio to cope with the growing demand for the Thar Roxx. “Our production capacity has a certain degree of interchangeability between the three-door and five-door Roxx, totaling about 9,500 units. In the first phase, we want to increase the interchangeability so that we can get more Thar Roxx and we will Do that by January and in phase two we will add thousands more.
Mahindra leads the Indian SUV market
In October, during the two major festivals of Dussehra and Diwali, Mahindra sold more than 54,000 SUVs in India. This is the highest number of cars Mahindra has sold in a month in the country. During this period, Mahindra also cleared most of the pending orders for the three-door Thar. While the carmaker admitted that demand for the small Thar fell after the launch of the Thar Roxx, it has recovered since the last week of September and has one of the shortest waiting periods among all Mahindra SUVs. The Mahindra Thar is currently available with discounts up to $Benefited 300,000.
