As the Election Commission of India (EC) announces the dates for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, a senior Congress leader has expressed concerns over the credibility of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held in phases on November 20 and counting of votes will take place on November 23. It will be held on the 20th and the results will be announced on November 23rd.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi raised fresh controversy by raising doubts about the EVM. “If it is alleged that Israel can target individuals using pagers and walkie-talkies, what does this mean for the security of the EVM?” Alvi asked.
He further suggested that the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand should be conducted using paper ballots instead of EVMs.
Alvi’s statement assumes significance as it comes on the day the election schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand is announced.
“In Maharashtra, the opposition parties should put pressure on insisting on voting through paper ballots instead of electronic voting machines. Otherwise, in Maharashtra, the BJP government and the Election Commission can do Anything. he said.
“The prime minister has a very good relationship with Israel. Israel is an expert in this field. Assessment value This big game can happen anywhere and that is why the BJP is playing all this before the elections.”.
What does the European Commission say?
However, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday refuted the allegations and assured that the EVM is 100% foolproof
Speaking to ANI, Kumar said: “The public answers the questions by participating in the polls. As far as the EVMs are concerned, they are 100% foolproof. If they raise the question again today, we will tell them again.”
Last week, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh submitted a memorandum to the poll body on the same issue. Ramesh hopes the agency will recognize the issue and give appropriate instructions.
Congress secretary-general Ramesh, who is in charge of communications, wrote on social media platform The latest report memorandum has highlighted that there were serious and obvious irregularities in the electoral process in 20 assembly constituencies in Haryana. We hope that the Election Commission will take cognizance of this and issue appropriate instructions.
