Maharashtra Elections 2024: Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) claims to have reached consensus on allocation of 260 out of 280 Assembly seats, but remaining 28 seats reportedly have become final by November 20 The parliamentary polls are at the center of contention with the opposition alliance.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) led by former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has threatened not to attend the talks if Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole attends them. Maharashtra Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala will rush to Mumbai on Saturday to resolve the impasse.
“There is very little time on hand and the decision on seat sharing has to be taken as soon as possible. I don’t think the state leaders are in a position to take any decision on seat sharing, they have to send a list of everything to Delhi. Shiv Sena (UBT) )’s Sanjay Raut said on Friday: “It is important that discussions should be held with the central leadership of the Congress. “
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which is made up of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress Party and the nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), is fighting with the ruling Sindhi-led Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ) and the Mahayuti alliance of the NCP fought hard.
Congress MP Patole wants 125 seats
It is learned that the Sena (UBT) has proposed 100 seats each for Congress and Sena-UBT, while the NCP (SP) has 88 seats. However, reports said Patole refused to give up the Congress’ 125 seats and was not ready to share the Vidarbha seat with the Sena Party (UBT).
Sanjay Raut also said that although there are “no major differences of opinion” between the NCP and the Shiv Sena, not even in the Congress, the three allies still want to contest some seats.
The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections mark the first polls in the state after the split between the Shiv Sena party and the NCP party in June 2022 and July 2023 respectively.
With little time on hand, the seat-sharing decision had to be made quickly.
Congress president Nana Patole said all leaders of the three MVA parties will report to their respective leaderships on the status of seat-sharing talks. “We will have a CEC (Central Election Commission) meeting on October 20 and a final decision will be taken then. There is no confusion among us and there is no dispute within the MVA. I don’t know in what context Raut is issued this statement.
