Maharashtra: Abu Azmi writes to spokesperson to withdraw suspension | Mumbai News

The Master of Samawadi Party, suspended for allegedly demeaning chhatrapati sambhaji maharaj, he has written to Speaker Rahul Narvekar, asking for his suspension to be revoked. He said he did not make any statements about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the media misrepresented his statement to Aurangzeb, the ruler of Mughal.

In his letter to the speaker, he said: “The media tried to harm me by distorting my statement. I humbly demanded the withdrawal of my suspension because I was not wrong in this matter.” Azmi wrote that the conflict between Aurangzeb and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not religious in nature but was driven by power and territorial disputes.

“In the era of Aurangzeb, the borders of India expanded to Myanmar and Afghanistan. People had a lot of gold and the country witnessed a prosperous era. I said Aurangzeb was a capable administrator based on historical facts. The conflict between Aurangzeb and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is not religion, but about power and land. I do not believe in caste or religious discrimination,” he wrote.

“I have not made any objectionable statements about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. I have great respect for these two great leaders,” he added.
