Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan speaks in Lok Sabha
Lok Sabha proceedings were on Monday (March 10, 2025) adjourned for about 30 minutes after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members staged protests over Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks that Tamil Nadu government was “dishonest” and “ruining” the future of the students of the state by taking a complete ‘U-Turn’ on the issue of implementing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI).
Responding to questions about the PM Shri program, Mr Pradhan said the Tamil Nadu government, led by the DMK, has changed its position on implementing a centralized sponsorship program, which envisions strengthening schools managed by central, state or local agencies.

The relevant countries must sign a memorandum of understanding with the central government, which will implement the national education policy for 2020.
“The Tamil Nadu government initially agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding. But now they have changed their position. Many non-BJP-ruling countries, including Karnataka and Himaal Pradesh, have signed the agreement,” he said.
Mr Pradan said: “They are dishonest and they are destroying the future of students in Tamil Nadu. They are doing politics.”
In addition to the minister’s remarks, DMK members conducted strong protests by presenting slogans against the central government.
Spokesperson Om Birla asked the squirming members to return to their seats and keep the house functioning properly. However, the DMK members ignored his request and continued to protest.
After a while, Birla held the house back until 12 noon.
